I'm Jessica. I graduated from The Art Institute of Phoenix with a B.A. in Advertising. I'm in love with music, but can rarely classify or define what types, since every genre has it's merits (though most genres of Rock are where I spend about 90% of my time). I'm not nearly as much involved in the Phx scene as a good music enthusiast should be, but I'm trying to work on it. Luckily I have a job which really facilitates this effort. I work in New Media Development for
101 Distribution. Which allows me to go to shows and look for more bands to work with!
When I was graduating, I marketed myself as a "bridge builder." My understanding in advertising, or any business, but more prevalently in music, is that there is a gap between people who provide services and people who need them (whether they realize the need or not). And my job, talent, and passion is to help build the bridges between those two plateaus. I know that music is based in art, passion and expression, but it is also a business, and whether through 101 or on a personal level, I want to connect anyone I meet with the people who will help them to further themselves. If you're a band in need of distribution, I am in just the position to connect you to that. If you're a musician looking to get out and jam, I know places you can go. If you want to make a music video, website, album art, whatever, I know a few people (other graduates) who may be able to help you out, depending on what media you want to attack.
I almost filed myself as being a "promoter." But I really am, just a fan. I feel that it's any fan, or any ONE's job to help where they can, and if they feel passionately about something, to facilitate its growth. That's all I aim to do. I won't offer you more than what I know. But when I come to know something of use to you, I will definitely offer it. Just because I love the music, the (potential of the) business, and the (potential of the) scene.
On a personal level, all business included or put aside, I suppose that's who I am and what I do.
Other places I am:
myspace - though I'm pickier adding on that since that's more personal.
twitter - just because.
and you can look me up on facebook if you feel so inclined as well
